I’m Tom Dunton, owner and operator of California Fine Stairbuilding. As a Bay Area native raised on the Peninsula, my passion for architecture and fine craftsmanship began early. After studying architecture at the University of Michigan, I entered the construction industry, working in commercial building and later custom home construction.

My fascination with stair design began the day I saw a custom staircase being installed—a moment that shaped the future of my career. After more than 13 years working alongside some of the region’s top stair companies, I launched California Fine Stairbuilding in 2002.
